This morning the Governor signed the 2008-2009 State Budget.
His veto message included several of the State Library's Local Assistance programs.
These appropriations had originally been proposed to receive a 10% reduction back in January. At the June conference committee, the legislature had reduced these reductions to only 5%. Today the Governor used his line item veto authority to reinstate the 10% reduction he had proposed in January. This 10% reduction includes the California Library Literacy Services which had been zeroed out in one of the many budget scenarios that was being considered.
The Library's State Operations appropriations received the anticipated 10% reduction that we have been planning for since January.
We are glad to have a budget in place and will continue to use our resources to their maximum effect in serving the people of California.
