Sacramento’s homeless youth will speak about their experiences in a panel discussion at the California State University, Sacramento Library Gallery on Thursday, September 11, 2008 from 6 pm to 9 pm. The event is part of the opening of Children of the Wind, an exhibition of photographs of homeless teens at Sacramento’s WIND Youth Services taken over a period of four years.
The homeless young people at WIND allowed local photographer Kent Lacin into their lives to photograph them. Lacin’s collection speaks volumes about youth who don’t have stable housing and live on the street, often virtually invisible to the adults around them.
Kathryn Dresslar, Chief of Staff for State Senator Darrell Steinberg, Tasha Norris, Associate Executive Director of the WIND Center for Homeless Teens, and Ginny Puddefoot, Project Director of the California Homeless Youth Project for the California Research Bureau at the California State Library will also participate on the Children of the Wind opening panel. Dr. Andy Bein, Professor in the Division of Social Work at CSUS, will moderate. A question and answer period will follow. Refreshments will be served.
For more information or to arrange an interview with the photographer or the speakers, please call Kent Lacin at (916)447-9656.
