On August 5, the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) announced that 39 California institutions, of 776 organizations nationwide, have been selected to receive the Connecting to Collections Bookshelf. The bookshelf will contain selected texts, online resources, and user’s guides, which offer indispensible information on conservation and emergency preparedness for cultural institutions. The bookshelves were awarded to institutions that typically operate on small budgets and staff, and that demonstrated a dire need for this rich cache of information.
Dr. Anne-Imelda Radice, Director of IMLS, states that “The Connecting to Collections Bookshelf provides museums, libraries, and archives essential instructions on how to rescue treasures of yesteryear that they hold in trust.”
The 39 California recipients included historical societies, universities and colleges, museums, archives, art centers, nature preserves, and three libraries: Humboldt County Library, the California Judicial Center Library, and the California State University Monterey Bay Library. Congratulations to all 39 institutions who will receive this invaluable resource!
