The California State Library has summarized five library related ballot measures that were held on California’s June ballot. The five library related ballot measures are:

(General tax ballow measures in California require a simple majority (50+%) to pass, but all library special tax measures in California require a 2/3’s supermajority to pass)
Alameda County Library June 3, 2008 Passed (General Tax)
Fremont, CA Operating 65% Yes Vote
The approval of the Utilities User general tax will provide a revenue stream for the operation of the library as well as other County services.
Contra Costa Public Library June 3, 2008 Passed (Special Tax)
Orinda, CA Operating 74% Yes Vote
Increase in the annual parcel tax from $27 to $39 to keep the Orinda Library operating 60 hours per week. The tax has no sunset date.
Covina Public Library June 3, 2008 Passed (General Tax)
Covina, CA Operating 65% Yes Vote
The approval of the Utilities User general tax will provide a revenue stream for the operation of the library as well as other City services.
Pacific Grove Public Library June 3, 2008 Passed (General Tax)
Pacific Grove, CA Operating 65% Yes Vote
The measure was a 1% general sales tax for operation of citywide services (including the library) with no sunset.
Santa Cruz Libraries June 3, 2008 Passed (Special Tax)
Santa Cruz, CA Facilities and Operating 73% Yes Vote
This countywide quarter cent sales tax makes permanent an existing tax and will fund both operations and facilities development for libraries in Santa Cruz County including the Watsonville Public Library.
