The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) announced June 17 that it has named 31 recipients of Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program grants. The University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) Graduate School of Education & Information Studies will receive $950,555 of the $20.3 million total grant distribution.
First Lady Laura Bush’s 2002 initiative bolsters the library profession by helping to fund the education of librarians. UCLA‘s winning education project, "Building the Future of Archival Education and Research," will address the shortage of professors in archival science by providing at least four doctoral fellowships in archival-related topics.
The next deadline for the Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program is December 15, 2008. Please visit http://www.imls.gov/applicants/grants/21centuryLibrarian.shtm for more information.
