ALA gives San Diego County Library 2008 Information Today Library of the Future Award

The San Diego County Library (SDCL) has won the American Libraries Association (ALA) 2008 Information Today Library of the Future Award for SDCL’s Gateway/Al-Bawaba Project.

The ALA’s annual award honors individual libraries and others for innovative planning, application, and development of customer training programs about information technology in a library setting.

SDCL’s Gateway/Al-Bawaba Project provides computer internet instruction to the immigrant Middle Eastern population in San Diego County. Using Arabic speaking instructors recruited through community outreach, students enroll in bi-lingual classes held at three SDCL branches.
