In honor of the 77th anniversary of the Pratt-Smoot Act, legislation passed in 1931 inaugurating the "Books for the Blind" program (now called the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped) within the Library of Congress, the Braille and Talking Book Library at the California State Library is hosting a free reception Friday, February 29, 2008 at 11:00am in the Braille and Talking Book Library Reading Room at 900 N. Street in Sacramento.
The celebration of this historical occasion is open to the public and will feature refreshments and veteran talking book narrator Sandra Swafford recounting a selection from the Braille and Talking Book Library’s recorded “Californiana” collection.
