The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) has awarded California, through the Peninsula Library System, $39,982 to conduct a statewide planning project from March 2008 through February 2009. Called the California Connecting to Collections Project, it will develop a statewide preservation plan for the state’s some 7000 heritage institutions which include museums, libraries and archives, historical societies, and state parks facilities.
The California Connecting to Collections Project goals are:
• To create a shared vision for preservation among heritage institutions in California.
• To develop a statewide preservation plan for heritage collections.
The project’s work group consists of five partners: the California Association of Museums, the California Preservation Program, the California State Library, California State Parks, and Historic Monterey (a multi-agency collaborative organization).
