Sunnyvale voters Tuesday rejected a proposal to build a new energy efficient library to replace the existing facility built in 1959. The ballot garnered a 59% Yes vote, falling short of the two-thirds majority needed to pass. The ballot item fell far short of the two-thirds majority needed to pass. The $108 million measure would have raised property taxes about $53 a year. There was much debate in the city and discussion in council candidate forums about the measure

San Francisco's Measure D, a renewal of the Library Preservation Fund set to expire in FY 2008-09, has won with a 74.44% positive vote based on unofficial results released on November 12th. Election officials predict it will be up to two weeks until an official count is accomplished. Proposition D is a Charter Amendment that would renew the Fund for 15 years, with monies for the Fund coming from the same annual property tax set-aside. Money from the Fund would continue to provide library services and materials and operate the main library and 27 branch libraries.

In Yolo County, the city of Davis' Measure P, reached a two-thirds majority with 73 percent of the vote. The measure is a Davis Branch Library tax to maintain the library's services, expand its collection, enlarge and modernize its building and authorize library services in south Davis. Measure P increases the current library parcel tax of $42 per parcel authorized in 1989 to $88 per parcel, and includes multiple family dwellings at a $44 per unit rate.

South San Francisco voters approved Measure B, boosting the business license tax to $15 per employee in order to fund the city's general services such as police, fire, streets and park maintenance and library services. The measure is showing a 72.9 percent Yes vote.
