State Librarian of California Susan Hildreth announced that she has appointed Linda Springer as Bureau Chief for State Library Services. Springer’s appointment is effective March 1, 2007. She has been serving as the Acting Bureau Chief since November 2006.
Springer will manage and administer a bureau with an annual budget of 9.6 million and 88 full-time employees. She will oversee the bureau’s major operations including California History, Government Publications, the Witkin Law Library, the State Information and Reference Center, Special Collections, the Sutro Library, Technical Services, and the Braille and Talking Book Library.
Springer has extensive experience administering library services. Before serving as Deputy Bond Act Manager in the Office of Library Construction at the California State Library from October 2000 through July 2006, Springer managed branches and the central library at the Johnson County Library in Kansas, and at the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library in Georgia. She has worked in library construction and library development at the Georgia State Library.
State Librarian Hildreth says, "Linda Springer's extensive experience managing complex library operations will greatly enhance this already dynamic and service-oriented branch of the California State Library. I look forward to working with her as the California State Library continues to personally and virtually provide great services to its customers."
